Getting GMail to work on your unlocked iPhone…
October 23, 2007 – 3:58 pmWell folks, when I first unlocked mine, I was having all sorts of issues getting GMail setup on my iPhone and it turned out to be a very easy fix. There is actually something you need to enable in your GMail account to get it to sync with your iPhone.
Login to your account and go to “Settings” (Up at the top right) and then click the “Forwarding and POP” tab.
If you want all the e-mail in your inbox to retroactively sync, click “Enable POP for all mail”
Otherwise, select the second option and click save!
That should fix it!

I should note, you need some sort of data plan for this to work. (I believe it will work with GPRS, and I know for a fact it will work with EDGE)

Good news!
Google has started adding IMAP to some GMail accounts.
Sadly, mine is not one of them. This is great news for iPhone users! Stay tuned!
